Today, you’ll have the chance to practice your listening and writing skills to prepare for the class test next Monday.

Class test

Remember the things to study for the class test:

Grammar: indirect speech and the passive, use the photocopies of the grammar section I gave you and the exercises on the page Englische Grammatik eigenständig üben.
Personal topics to revise
Writing — it’s difficult to practice writing on your own but reading a lot is also a good preparation for writing. Pay attention to the how the sentences are written and you’ll learn how to write yourself.
Listening — Practice listening with today’s exercises. You can do them again at home or look for different ones on the internet, for example
- Tea-time Mag: That’s an online magazine with different topics. You can read and listen to every article.
- Spotlight is another online magazine. They have a podcast that you can listen to as well.

Listening and writing

As we were talking about visiting New York, you can learn some more about this city and a group’s trip there.

Go to the webpage about New York Travel.
First, do the pre-listening exercise (section I, »pre-« means »before«): Discuss the questions there with your neighbour. Make sure you only speak English!
Listen to the audio track (section II). First, one of you should listen, then the other one. When BOTH of you have listened to the track, do the click the answers under the audio and check your answers by clicking »Final score«.
Directly before section III, there’s a link to the »Quiz script«. Click it, listen to the audio again and read along (you can switch headphones after the first half).
On the »Quiz script« page, below the text, there’s the key vocabulary: read it carefully and find the words in the text. Always read the whole sentence in which a word occurs (vorkommen).
Learn the words from the »key vocabulary« for the class test.
Do the three vocabulary activities below the »key vocabulary«.
Scroll to the top of the »Quiz script« page and click »Back to Quiz«
Write a text of at least 10 sentences to answer the question in section IV (»Post-Listening Exercises«).
Exchange the text with your partner and correct each other’s mistakes. Discuss them.
